I don't know anyone who really believes clandestine assassinations require "pretty please" from Congress or anyone else. I'm sure you don't.
The point refusing to be acknowledged here is: it's not that we have continuously trained assassins in ingenious ways of clendestine termination, accelerating since WWII to include all kinds of professional self-interested contractors (as LBJ exclaimed in his "Murder Incorporated" comment, and everyone who thinks that's gone away raise their hand).
It's that these activities, as exemplified by the previous link, are directed by legions on the gov't payroll who don't answer to anyone, who operate, train and kill people for the highest bidder, even for our enemies -- and there's a little-used word for this: treason.
No one seems to get very excited these days about that word, least of all people in the intel community, or the various administrations, who let off the hook anyone who happens to get caught and publicized in spite of their best efforts to sweep it under the rug.
Perhaps that's a bit to complex to understand. It's a lack of morals, honor and respect for the citizens of this country, an attitude of self-interest and the knowledge that you can hide anything you wish.
The impression the average Joe has is that you can never get rid of intel folks, or even find them, and they'll just keep muliplying in dark corners until there's some daylight and visibility. It should be only military secrets that are secured, not excuses for laziness, incompetence, and criminality. No wonder they have a low level of respect in this country, even before WTC
If Ridge doesn't have the integrity and stature to fix that we're still wide open to getting blown out of the sky and our cities are at risk. To the average citizen it looks like it's each man for himself and nobody is minding the store... |
