I don't know where you studied law, but the Judaeo-Christian Heritage of our laws is well documented. Roman law had some influence, but the Roman Law system was mostly a system of Civil Law which is at variance with the system in our country.

As for laws not being about morality. I challenge you to name one law, that is not based upon some moral belief.
The fact is law is nothing more than the impoosition of moral concepts by those who make laws.
