What's really motivating them is their media isolation and robotic response to the words from their leaders' specific interpretations of what that means. Not anything inherent in the people or the Koran, as evidenced by the peaceful sects. Maybe some false messages from their prophet will work on the naive... A taliban member persuaded is a Taliban member we don't have to terminate or imprison. It's too early to see much in the way of detailed military tactics, but there should be options to total annihilation, such as POW camps. Not so naive when you consider it is less costly to homeland morale to reduce the number of months of bloodshed, and encourage support from fence-sitting Moslem countries. How? I dunno, maybe would be the first war fought with Thorazine...
