Remembering Mambo
Antone's, Monday 24
The last time Antone's hosted a tribute to Mambo John Treanor, he was there to enjoy it, looking out at friends and fans from behind his drums. Only a few weeks later cancer finally claimed him, leaving friend and bandmate Jon Dee Graham to eulogize him as "a beautiful, brilliant eccentric, who traveled in his own private and highly specialized orbit." Now, some of those lucky enough to have logged mileage with him will gather again to pay tribute and raise money for the percussionist's medical and funeral expenses. And there's no doubt the lineup both befits his legacy and is worth more than your $10: Double Trouble, Charlie Sexton, Toni Price, Bob Schneider, the Resentments, and Guy Forsyth. - Andy Langer |
