Keith: You are one of the posters I respect most here. I saw the oil data. Such a move is confounding. I don't even have a guess as to the reasons. In hindsight we know the rise last year was an overreaction so maybe this is the mirror. It didn't mean anything then and it doesn't now. Or can we blame some of the decline in trailing 12 mos profits on the increase in energy costs and now we get the reverse for the forward 12 mos?

VZ is strong yes. My source tells me the retail traffic at VZ stores is stampede like. No explanations, they coincidentaly had in place a strong consumer program for this time period unrelated to recent events. Too early to call this a trend.

Financial companies i.e. lenders. Seems they are making up for their bad loan portfolios with mondo rate spreads. So this is a net wash.

My point to all this is not to treat current events as the catalysts for a Bull Run but take the events as merely that, events.

I'm starting to hear things like stocks value versus the Fed Funds parallax view or some such. Nonsense. The idea that the S&P will earn $55/sh forward 12mos is a gross stretch. The auto industry and its related sub industries is set to lose more share. The travel industry will see a decline. Retail is slowing, when Walmart & Costco slow I get nervous. So where will the growth come from? Govt High Tech spending? I think we will likely first see a consolidation of companies to shore up pricing power before we see a leg up.
