INTEL TO INVEST ADDITIONAL $300 MILLION IN CHINA PLANT
Efe - September 21, 2001

Beijing, Sep 21 (EFE).- Intel, the world's largest computer chip manufacturer, announced plans to invest an additional $300 million to expand packaging and quality control operations at its plant in Shanghai's Pudong industrial district.

The expansion of the factory, established in 1998 and the only Intel plant in China, will increase the company's overall investment in China to $500 million.

Intel is expanding the factory to cover an area of 56,000 square meters (601,989 square feet), about four times the facility's present size.

The chipmaker currently has 12 offices in China, as well as an international research center in Beijing and a program development laboratory in Shanghai.

Intel's investments in China reflect that has become the world's fastest growing market for computers. EFE
