A lot of hay has been made about dentists' reluctance to adopt the Centauri laser because of its high cost.

My CPA notes that Section 179 depreciation allows a dentist to write off $17,500 of the cost in the first year of acquisition. The dentist can also write off the first of seven years of depreciation in the first year.

Thus, a little over half of the cost of the laser is written off in the first year.
