Another reason I like NSCP is the support of multiple platforms, which obviously is something MSFT has no desire to do.

Oh, yes, I had forgotten to add this to my post to Sal, and you reminded me:

Instead of trying to tie Java to one platform as it is doing with Direct J, Microsoft should be trying to enhance the Java-platform's multi-OS capabilities.
Remember the underlying economic dynamic underlying write-once-run-anywhere. People want it because it is cost-effective. If Java did not exist, someone would have to invent it. Trying to tie Java to Windows defeats the purpose of Java and will, in the end, be self-defeating for Microsoft.
