He was against the war in Vietnam, but still enlisted and wound up spending 5 months in Vietnam as a military photographer.
It's interesting to search for links and find nothing but page after page of vile accusations attacking him as a coward for enlisting in the army, then serving in Vietnam, as a photographer. The right wing in this country is despicable.
I had a high lottery number and wasn't drafted (and have always had a vague feeling of guilt for not going when so many others did). Gore volunteered, served his country in Vietnam, and gets smeared by these right wing cockroaches. It's disgusting. Bush pulled some strings and got to play National Guard pilot in Texas.
I don't blame Bush, I didn't want to fight in Vietnam either, but the notion that he is more experienced in war than Gore is ludicrous. Al Gore volunteered for the Army, and served in Vietnam.
Bush used connections to get himself into a local air national guard unit, which is supposed to be made up of veteran pilots, particularly during a shooting war, and gets treated like some kind of war hero.
I don't want to start some kind of fight about this, especially with all that's going on in the world right now, but give the guy who enlisted, then spent time in the jungle in Vietnam a little credit, OK? |
