I know something about this: Renewed forests grow at something like five times the rate of old growth. You can log without roads, but it's a false economy because helicopters consume prodigious amounts of fuel.

Our American forests were growing much faster than the rate they were being cut, prior to the Clinton era and the misguided measures promoted by his supporters. The only places you will find harvest exceeds regrowth is in the third world and Siberia, where you are now getting the wood you need.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for old growth. But let's tell the truth about it.
