Now with real estate, I think a service is done. If you negotiate a 4% commission you are doing well. The fact that YOU don't escort morons who have no interest in purchasing your home can be a deal saver (IMO). No lost Saturdays and Sundays. AND there is a degree of separation that is oh-so-comforting. Our RE agent earned her keep. I'll tell you that she dug into her own pocket more than once to make the deal.
