Detainment for an unlimited period of time seems necessary at this time because it has been shown that terrorists will lie dormant, as "sleepers," for long periods, before going into action. Also, because their identities, contacts, and cross-relations with other terrorists are so entangled, it seems the intelligence agencies need time, while suspected terrorists are incarcerated, to dissect and unravel them all. If I'm not mistaken, one or more of the hijackers or architects of last Tuesday's tragedy had been previously interrogated but were let go with no real evidence to hold them. Secondly, I'm not too worried about the future misuse of unlimited detainment, since the threat of terrorism makes any future questionable now.
