Last week, most probably, short covering was one of the few stabalizing forces in the market. Halt short selling, and the market will get much more volatile, and overall valuations will be lower in the long run.

Keep an eye on the short interest numbers that will be released next month. As long as you don't see a huge rally, they'll decline.
