Steve,
For quite some time, I have heard through the grapevine that Microsoft is committed to ATM technology. Last week at a broadband conference in Paris, France, my colleague who is advisor engineering at MCI listened to Tim Kwok, Chief ATM person -- VP of Consumer Platform Division of Microsoft discuss Microsoft's efforts in developing capabilities for ATM to the desktop and to the home using xDSL technology, especially in ADSL & VDSL, "Microsoft had not talk about cable modem or wireless technology" as I spoke with him. He discussed standards and general direction of broadband technology and integrating to other data service networking.
Tim stated Microsoft's interest is in providing services over broadband facilities. He described Internet as the first killer application over broadband networks, he then went of to talk about public, corporate, and residential capabilities.
I am pushing to make this happen very soon, hopefully by september. I spoke and working with Amati's staff to bring their modems on the main stream.
If you have any technical development issues regarding to ADSL, please share with others. My feeling is that, Amati has a very strong products but the manegement is not aggressive enough to make things happen.
