cool, i'll look into firewall stuff on linux rh 7.1. i'm running cross cable to connect the boxes. my purpose is to be able to program php/pgsql running on apache over linux from my win box. i'm trying to enable file sharing first (win, linux and samba) so i can access linux file structure. apache is next. serene meditation will follow ;-) do you have any idea why both linux and local shared files would disappear? the local shared files actually allowed me access through network neighborhood. i understand linux may have a problem, but the on / off nature of the win shared folders has me puzzled. tia...
