re: government involvement in airline security
I'd suggest:
1. no direct government involvement. They pay the bills, and outsource the job. 2. hire a variety of security companies, the lowest bidders. Tell them what the job is, and then let them do it any way they want to. Zero oversight, zero public management (which would just add layers of useless bureaucracy). 3. Permanently fire any security company whose employees are on board a successful attack. No exceptions, no excuses. 4. the above would result in a cost-effective and successful program, after a period of Darwinian selection among private security companies.
The above might work for our offensive response to terrorism, as well. Offer a 10B$ reward to any government, organization, or individual who brings us Bin Laden's head. Body optional. No questions asked. If the government does the job, it's going to cost more than that, with less certain results (we pay the cost, in $s and lives, even if we fail). |
