well Tom, that was then and this is now. My five year old daughter having the right to go to school in english because i went to school in english will graduate from the system perfectly bilingual. She will study the first three years of her school life in french only, eventually switching to a 50% english 50% french program by grade three. All those whose parents or parent studied in english in Quebec have this right. Low and behold the french educated parents do not have this right. Needless to say they are mad as hell and are basically trashing the seperatist Parti Quebecqois government, imagine, their main backing. With this situation alone, i firmly believe that the seperatist movement is permanently finished, simply because, guess who gets the jobs now? The PQ are a bunch of fumbling, following, harmless morons anyway. The world is moving way too fast for them to even create effective policy or make appropriate decisions for their cause.
On another note, the government is trying to starve out the english schools by providing a minimum of funds which in turn results in incredible parent participation toward the child's education. i have never seen such fantastic participation, cooperation and communication, creating the opportunity for a better than private school education. Sometimes freedoms are obtained in the strangest of ways. Real estate is rising and jobs are plentiful, as for the time being, the writing is on the wall for the PQ. |
