The problem with many public schools is the depth of quality education. The students who can achieve high SAT scores are at less risk in all schools. It's the mildly above average to below average who get screwed in weaker schools. Top 10% will do fine in most places. The 70 to 90 percent will less well to poorly and those below 70% just get screwed in many public schools. The Catholic, religious and private schools focus a more uniform level of challenge and expectation. The attitude of teacher is simply more caring.
