Constantine, Re: "Our code base is high-level with no assembler language optimizations or special compilers. It accesses the memory in a random way ( depending on the flow of the program, not in a predetermined manner ), does a lot of integer and floating point calculations and it's pretty big in size ( 1.1MB ). I think the majority of commercial code out there fits that profile."

I'd say the majority of commercial code comes from Microsoft. That's what makes them such a huge empire. They wouldn't be so big if the majority of businesses were buying something else. These Microsoft apps are well represented in those benchmarks that you like to discount.

But like I said, your benchmark is valid, too. If what you say is true, and the majority of businesses find the highest end Pentium 4 performing like last years Pentium III (or worse), then Intel will have an extremely difficult time penetrating the corporate sector. But I think that's too much of a good thing to be true for some of the AMD investors on this board.

One other thing: I think that optimizing those apps could do wonders for them, even without SSE-2 optimizations. But Intel has to concentrate on the popular apps before they can even consider getting small businesses to optimize their own proprietary software.
