On Global Crossing and CWP:

CWP. Too many risks associated with its strategy: Changing its business model from International carrier plus international operator to IP/VPN/Webhosting model. Just keep in mind that in September 2000, Exodus paid $6.525 billion for Global Crossing's Web hosting unit, GlobalCenter. Exodus filed to chapter 11 two days ago. Changing -in the case of CWP- is not easy in a old culture company.

I haven't had made a timeline for international operators. I keep looking to the local carriers to see what they do. Once we know what they do we can look to the impact on the international carriers.

Global Crossing: In a downturn, the business of taking people to one place to another drops. Data and telcoms is similar: Taking information from one place to another drops too. (These are the times the office of a multi in a foreign country starts saving in copier paper, you know).

Now couple this reduced demand with oversupply ("According to Telegeography of Washington, D.C., intra-regional sub-sea capacity will increase from 15 gigabits per second to 1,215 Gbps between 2000 and 2001. And Goldman Sachs estimates that capacity will increase 292-fold between 1999 and 2002 in the region, based on planned cable builds.") and the picture looks not that bright, Jay. Small Medium Enterprises (SME) will suffer and this adds to the troubles.
