Sheldahl's International Flex Technologies to idle 42

Published Sep 27 2001

NORTHFIELD, MINN. -- Sheldahl Inc., a maker of chips used
in automobiles and cell phones, said it will lay off 26 percent of
the workers at its International Flex Technologies unit because
of weakening business conditions.

Twenty-seven full-time and 15 temporary workers at the unit,
based in Endicott, N.Y., will be let go, Sheldahl said in a
prepared statement.

The unit manufactures flexible circuits that are used in
computer, data communications and medical market industries.
The company said the decision to cut jobs came after adopting
other cost-reduction measures as business slowed.

Sheldahl stock fell 4 cents to $1.01.
