Sorry if I gave the impression that I had some direct pipeline to God. At the time I was just trying to say something encouraging or hopeful. It goes without saying that no one has a direct pipeline to God. And we should be at least wary of anyone who thinks they do. Take the Taliban for example or Jerry Falwell.

Still, reiterating my main point of a few days ago, if we're not responsible for our actions then I suppose God is.
But if God is, we could wonder about the goodness of God, asking why He/She/It had some of his puppets fly plane-loads of other puppets into buildings full of thousands more puppets, killing them all.

This, again is just the problem of evil -- the trouble of reconciling the existence of evil with the belief that God is all powerful, knowing and good. I'm not sure how to cope with it adequately. I've never liked the "God works in mysterious ways" solution. It seems to render the claim "God is good" meaningless, because no matter what happens, God is good? For any statement to have meaning it must be possible for it to be false/it can't be held true no matter what. This is my empiricism leaking out I think.

Anyway, I'll be around. Tried to write last night but I guess there were server problems.
