International Rectifier Doubles Current Density in New HEXFET MOSFETs for Networking and Communications DC-DC Converters
biz.yahoo.com
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2001--International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE:IRF) today introduced three new high current HEXFET® power MOSFETs that handle up to 100% more current and up to 50% lower device on-resistance than competing devices in the same footprint.

The high current, high efficiency 150V and 200V devices enable up to 25 degrees C lower operating temperature than previous generation devices. Lower device operating temperatures increase power-to-size ratio, or power density, and increases reliability.

The new MOSFETs are optimized for the primary side of 48V isolated DC-to-DC converters. Isolated DC-DC converters power the latest broadband networking and telecommunications equipment.

Jorge Llorens, International Rectifier Marketing Manager for Networking and Communication products said, ``Faster microprocessor speed and wider bandwidth pushes power density and reliability requirements to higher levels. IR's new high current HEXFET MOSFETs reduce or eliminate the need to parallel multiple devices, resulting in simpler designs, smaller size and lower parts count.''

Technical Highlights

The new devices include the 200V, 94A IRFBA90N20D in a Super-220(TM) package; the 200V, 94A IRFP90N20D in a TO-247 package; and the 150V, 61A IRFB61N15D in a TO-220 package.

Both the IRFP90N20D and the IRFBA90N20D have industry leading performance with an on-resistance as low as 23mOhms. The IRFBA90N20D in the Super-220 package has an extended lead-frame that enables it to carry 94A in the same outline as a standard TO-220.

The IRFB61N15D delivers 10% lower on-resistance and 20% higher current handling capability than the nearest competing device in a TO-220 package, increasing efficiency and power density.
