oh my, now you are opening another can of worms. some people would argue that the atomic bombs dropped on hiroshima and nagasaki actually saved lives by demonstrating to the japanese that it was futile to continue the war. we would have still won the war using conventional means but it would have dragged on much longer and would have cost more lives--american and japanese.
