I read fiction with the eyes of an engineer. I enjoy Tom Clancy but his stories are always leaving out current US technology or the story would have zero tension or uncertainty. Dessert Storm showed the reality of a Coordinated US military against WW2 armies. If Afghanistan were not as bleak as Anwar then I might have some more concern. But this barren land with little transportation will not provide a very good haven for bad guys. There has to be communication and all communication can be located. There are no land lines.
