The benefit of becoming a board member of any company is financial. Board members are paid large sums of money. Some on an annual basis but most on the meetings they attend. And lets not forget the stock rewards and stock options.

They are handsomely rewarded and one can be a member of several BOD while doing nothing else in life and become very wealthy. (In most cases, MORE wealthy)

The details are usually in the annual reports.
