A lot of the difficult and unfair restrictions on the Palestinians where put in place in response to violence. If there was a final agreement and a Palestinian state then Palestinians would not have to put up with such restrictions (assuming Arafat doesn't impose some of them in a fight against Hamas or something like that). The building permits would come from their own government not from Israel.

I can see the reasons for resentment but the violence just hardens Israel and makes many of its people think that the Palestinians can't be dealt with. It has decimated those in Israel who would be willing to give up a lot for peace and strengthened the extremists.

Or having the Islamic world creating more terror, directed at both the United States and Israel, until it bankrupts the American taxpayer or we drop the BIG one on the region.

Bin Laden would hate the US even if we were Israel's enemy. Some Palestinian terrorists would probably continue even if there was a Palestinian state and the terrorism now only causes many in Israel to think "we can't let these people control a state on our borders". If you cause people to view you as violent and irrational then they will not want to deal with you and if the Palestinians are to have a state then they have to deal with Israel. The aid that the US gives Israel while large and important to Israel is less then a tenth of a percent of the US GDP, its not going to bankrupt the US taxpayer. As for dropping the "big one" if you mean nukes using them would be extremly irrational and if used by an Arab country against Israel would be likely to result in the effective destruction of that country. Of course we can't count on people to be rational. God help us if some radical terrorist group gets nukes.
