There's a difference between keeping your cards close to the chest and spreading disinformation. There are many logistical, political and military problems to be considered and overcome before venturing any attack in Afghanistan. They are real. Not the least of which is that the Taliban have 1000 Stinger missiles provided by the CIA in the 80's, there aren't any secure places in Pakistan to locate a base, the terrain in Afghanistan prohibits a ground offensive.

I figure that as much as it sounded like a red-neck Texan way of describing the situation, applying pressure and getting OBL to show himself is a pretty good strategy. Meanwhile, use satellites to locate the Stingers, key command centers, organize the Northern Alliance, etc.

OTOH, since we set up the Taliban in the first place and they have now proven themselves to be intent on relegating their entire population to medieval beggary(or resumed opium cultivation), why should we be having qualms about taking them out entirely?
