The Stinger missile is shoulder launched. Locating them by satellite may prove difficult, they're probably stuffed away in caves someplace. fas.org

As for taking out the Taliban, that would be cool. But consider this story:

Bush Urges Afghans to Rid Their Country of Taliban nytimes.com

Sort of like his father and Saddam. One hopes the Afghans haven't had any contact with the Kurds, tradition uprisers at US behest, also traditionally sold down the river when it's not convenient anymore. Or as W's father didn't say publicly after the Kurds rose up against Saddam, "Not those people!"

The president seemed mindful of that. While calling on Afghans to cooperate against the Taliban, he said he was not interested in creating a government to replace the Taliban should it fall as a result of American military strikes or internal unrest.

"We're not into nation building," he said. "We're focused on justice."

After the 10-13 year joint US-Russian effort in Afghanistan, that calls for a big "doh" too. Something got built there, it doesn't fit any definition of nation we'd like to admit to, but there it is. I guess the preferred course is to arm yet another set of warlords, or maybe recycle some from past efforts, for yet another proxy war and hope it turns out better this time.
