One indicator yesterday was the immediate 20% reduction in credit card transactions reported in realtime by Visa. I'm sure other short-term indicators will emerge shortly.

Longer-term is the real concern, changes in living patterns and increased transaction costs for business security.

But, we are all fiendishly growth-oriented even in disaster defense preparation. One counter-current will be business sectors benefiting from, for example the purported $1/2 trillion infrastructure hardening, that is partially overdue anyway. How much is a matter of redirecting productivity, rather than just reduction, will be the question.
