But then there were more people developing GSM than cdma and more suppliers too - this itself made it cheaper. Okay, so anyone new would have to pay more in royalties, but the number of vendos who supplied GSM kit far outways cdma, and with cross licensing the royalties tend to zero (hence no complaints).

I do however think that the Koreans got a bum deal. They basically commercialised cdma, not Qualcomm. Without Korea, cdmaOne wouldn't be where it is today (full stop).

Maybe someone should pose the question about "biting the hand that feeds you", and the question is "who is the hand and who is the mouth?"
