It is true that there are situations in which polygamy makes sense. However, the case of Zeus doesn't reflect community norms. The Greeks were monogamous. Additionally, Zeus kept causing, and sometimes getting, in trouble, with his antics. It is more likely that the Immortals were regarded as being above human morality, at least somewhat. Additionally, their intercourse with humans provided a rationale for there being a legendary class of demi- gods, human who were somehow more than human.
