The one day I don't read the Times. Interesting editorial you posted.
I'm of the opinion that there are a number of covert operations, using Special Forces and other means, already well at work. I'm getting the impression, by the rather disembodied and tepid wording being used by officials in recent interviews, that they simply cannot make these operations public at this time, if ever.
But the Russian mafia sure does, as do various Afghan factions, drug rings and Pakistani secret agents.
They all have their local, home-grown networks, and it is through such networks that the Afghan part of this war on terrorism will be fought. "The best
news I've heard all week was that Vladimir Putin is serious about joining the coalition," said Moises Naim, editor of the journal Foreign Policy. "This
sort of character can really help now."
I think the above, from the editorial, is an interesting idea, one I haven't read before, and one I'd support.
What are your thoughts about this? My apologies in advance if you've already posted them and I just haven't read that far along in the thread. |
