Au contraire, Bob. I can think of 2 national, reputable, no make it 4 reputable dealers who will buy and sell ducats, sovereigns, rosters, angels, Swiss Franc etc., all day long, every day, and at quite narrow & respectable B/S spreads.
Do you want those dealer's names also?
I can name many many dealers who deal in those continental fractional gold issues, but their spreads eliminate them from my short list above....
I'm a buyer all day long of those coins as well...and have references! Comes from being a dealer of over 20 years. In fact if it wasn't for some early good fortune in the coin biz as a dealer, I wouldn't be in gold recycling OR physical mining as well.
Continental "fractional" gold in those forms are very VERY liquid and mucho in demand.
In fact we use to have a continental poster on this very thread who regularly busted his buns to acquire any of those he could lay his hands on...usually only finding 3 or 4 coins monthly to quarterly in his own city, whose name you'd instantly recognize.
PS...I have a wonderful French Rooster with quite a provenance...I'm writing up an article on it now, for a major treasure hunter/detector trades magazine to post on their website. Maybe I'll come back and post the URL when it is up for public viewing.
