Sorry Nadine... I don't buy the Israeli story on the USS Liberty...

Too much was "hushed up" by both sides after the event.

However, that attack was the decision of a particular group of military and political leaders at that time, and not the fault of the Israeli people as a whole, so I don't lose much sleep over it.

Personally, I believe there were several reasons that have been theorized that would have "justified" an attack on that surveillance ship by these certain parties. Some say it was a cover-up of the impending assault upon the Golan Heights, and some say it was to cover up a massacre of Egyptian troops on the Sinai peninsula by a certain Israeli brigage commander.

The Liberty just doesn't factor into my "equation" on the mid-east. It was a tragic event and I would love to get the culprits responsible, but I'm not about to blame all Israelis over it.

But I have no doubt that the Israeli leadership would do it, or something like it, again... were they to consider it in their "vital" interests.
