Re: "Wow, mess with SS income?", that is the only "fair way", IMTO. The only guys that did not get refunds of $600 (for two) are those families still paying the full 15% in Social security, but not making enough to pay "normal income taxes". Those people, will indeed spend every penny they get, that will be stimulating. (g).

As fo the "Turnip's model", I am not ready yet for what happens post the 2250 in the first quarter of next year. Right now, my tentative model is still a peak around 3800 sometime in the next 18 to 24 months (quite stretched from the last scenario), but I have to see that economy indeed takes the $100 B or so hit due to the Sep. 11 tragedy "in stride", namely, when will the Michigan consumer confidence index gets back above 100.
