... the cab driver wondered how long the feud between the two competing refuse companies would continue. The streets wouldn't be safe until the city leaders decided which company had the rights to collect garbage on which streets.
The garbage truck driver spied the garbage cans laying near the lamppost and cursed loudly. "Dang it! Those #@$(*&) got here before we did AGAIN !!". He then slammed on his brakes and screeched to a halt. As he did so, his load of garbage shifted in the truck and compressed against the front wall of the refuse container. His assistant almost lost his grip on the hand rail because of the sudden stop.
"Hey Charlie!! Watch it, will ya?", he yelled to the driver, as he regained his position on the running board. He peeked over the edge of the refuse container to check on the load. It all looked OK. He relaxed a bit, then spotted the bright red object sticking out of the trash.
"Hmmmmm", he said ... "I wonder what that is?"
Back in the taxi, Bugs Pond (our hero!) had been awakened by the sound of the screeching garbage truck tires. He reached over and grabbed the coffee cup from the cabbie, who resisted at first, but thought better of it after looking into Bugs' piercing eyes. Bugs gulped down the scalding hot coffee in one long drink.
"Whoa, baby", thought the driver. "This is one guy I don't want to mess with."
The garbage truck assistant had crawled into the bed of the refuse container to retrieve the shiny red object.
"Well, I'll be ... Hey, Charlie! I haven't seen one of these in years!", he said, as he lifted it up over the edge so Charlie could see it.
Bugs caught a glimpse of it from half way down the street in the cab. It helps to have 20-15 vision, which is required of all super-heros. His super-hero sense immediately alerted him to the impending danger and he yelled at the rest of his entourage ... "WAKE UP !! We've gotta' get out of here!"
The cabbie wondered what the commotion was all about. He didn't see anything unusual about that shiny red object. He really didn't care what it was, as long as he got his $10,000 cab fare. He wondered how much of a tip this group would give him.
Rear Admiral woke with a start after Bugs' warning yell.
"Holy sheeeeiiitttttt !!!", he said, as he saw the object. He then shook Precious awake. Bugs jumped out of the cab and reached in to the back seat to wake up Muffy. "Come on!", he yelled, "we've gotta' get out of here before .... " |
