Your mistake, at least from my perspective, is in how you define "all powerful". As I noted, God can't make square circles, so God is not "all powerful", at least not in the sense that you seem to be using it. Are you suggesting He should be able to? This seems to be the implication of your statement; "God can come up with any old morality he wants, which seems to make ethics arbitrary."
It does follow logically, that if there is no ultimate standard by which we can measure right and wrong, good and evil, then all morality is relative, and if it is relative, then the terms are meaningless. Since you disagree, perhaps you can demonstrate how we can arrive at absolute morality in a universe that is devoid of any absolute standards? |
