Jim, I had similar experiences along the East German/Czech borders with West Germany. The Russkies were great guys. And, man, you could get anything for cigarettes, Levis or peanut butter. I once traded a case of Skippy for a Russian Major's dress uniform, which I promptly resold to a US Captain at big bucks. BTW, that was Skippy peanut butter, not kangaroo meat. <G> And I didn't do the trade with a Russian major. Just with a guy who had access to his quarters.
