GD., I would like to see some tests on 2G fabric also..I don't think we have that long to wait...

byteandswitch.com

First, Brocade has declined to submit products for evaluation in Byte and Switch’s planned bench-marking test of 2-Gbit/s switches scheduled for the end of September. “The engineers tell me they just won’t be ready,” says David Newman, president of Network Test Inc., the bench-marking and network design firm managing the test.

Newman has been in negotiations with Brocade for several weeks in an effort to get them to participate. Two of Brocade’s competitors –- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq: QLGC - message board) and Vixel Corp. (Nasdaq: VIXL - message board) -- are already shipping 2-Gbit/s switches, and have agreed to participate in the test.

I don't know what good a comparison on Q and Vixl would be?

One of the things that interests me in this next generation of products is the many references to of the" multiprotocol "director-class .

What other protocals? iSCSI, Iband, Perhaps there are two transitions coming; 2G and an ability to handle more than one protocol? Perhaps Qs real strength is its broader technology base in iSCSI and Iband all in one SANbox?

I don't think this concept would emerge as important for another year or so, which means Q HAS to compete with 2G until the market wants other functions. Q has been successful as it has been able to intuit what its customers really want( especially in comparison to ANCR) We don't have the evidence that that past success can be transferred to fabric yet.
