I don't think we've acknowledged it at all. Silvio Berlusconi was raked over the coals when he said that Western culture was superior to Islamic culture.

Some of us understand that Western tradition embodies universal truths, but many postmoderns and relativists in media and academe still think it's a mere ideological construct, and imperialist too.

The shock of Sept. 11 might bring them to reexamine their premises, but they haven't come around yet.
