Powell Blames Clinton for Mideast Violence
Secretary of State Colin Powell stunned those present at a
closed-door Capitol Hill briefing this week when he blamed ex-President Clinton for being too anxious to force concessions from Israel in negotiations with Yasser Arafat.

Powell pointed the finger at the Clinton administration after Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., began raking him over the coals for the Bush administration's disengaged approach to the peace process.

"Powell did not mince words in asserting that Clinton had been too aggressive," reports columnist Robert Novak.

During Clinton's eight years in office, Arafat was the most frequent foreign visitor to the Oval Office.

Republicans on hand were said to be ecstatic over Powell's Clinton slam - especially since he had worked closely with the Clinton administration in the past in such mini-crises as Haiti in 1994.
