Hi Penni,

I'll probably get myself in trouble for jumping in here, but I think that private schools are not the cost-effective way to go, at least in the case of engineering/computer studies. Much more important is one's level of self motivation. Of course I'm strongly biased by my own experience. I've been in the field for almost 20 years, have a BA in Latin, no CS/Engineering degree, and have done as well as anyone could hope for in this field. If it were my own kid, I'd say go to the local state school, get the CS degree, and then work your ass off. These companies want results, that's all. With stock options, the rewards can be huge, and it won't matter a bit if your degree came from M.I.T. (except that you can buy your BMW that much sooner, instead of paying off loans).
