One of the things that haunts me about the WTC attack is the people who had to make the decision to jump. And then I think about all of the other people who probably went to the roof to get away from the fire and I began to think "how could they have been saved". And this isn't only for terrorist attacks, but also regular ole fires.

What I came up with for an idea is: On top of buildings that are too tall to be effectively serviced by firefighters. At the top of these buildings, have a storage room filled with parachutes. At least that way, when someone has to make the choice to jump or burn to death, they at least have a chance to survive.
