Tommaso, You should see that they are trying to communicate most effectively under the circumsyances. Your fractured French is their native tongue and they can elicit your meaning far better than if you spoke good English to their bad ears. They then respond to you in fractured English and your excellence in that language allows you to elicit their meaning far better than if they spoke fast French to you. Lets face it fast French is incomprehemsible to you and they knew it by your French utterances. So they were pragmatically getting to the best way to communicate...each hears in the tongue they best understand. Bill
