Sounds like a lot of implied assumptions there...

For example, we flipped our mortgage from variable to fixed about a year ago and got rates lower than our variable could go.

The implied assumption is that compensation will change with the markets... and while that may hold true for new hires, and for people in businesses that cut pay... it is not true across the board.

(Of course one could argue that cutting jobs effectively lowers the average salaries for the entire workforce since those laid off make nothing...
