Samsung Develops 576Mb Rambus DRAM
October 1, 2001 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said it has developed the world's first 576Mb Rambus DRAM chip, and will begin mass production in the second quarter of next year.

The new Rambus DRAM measures 0.12 microns, which is much smaller than a 256Mb Rambus DRAM.

The 576Mb chip will be used for high-function computers, workstations and large-scale servers, as well as game machines and set-top boxes.

Samsung, which holds a majority 60 percent share of the global Rambus DRAM market, intends to rake in US$1 billion in 2002 and US$2.5 billion in 2003 from the Rambus DRAM market.

The price of Rambus DRAM recently rose 38 percent to US$47 per module from US$34 at the end of August, despite a slowdown in the semiconductor industry.
