Siebel Announces Web-Based Software, Acquisition
SAN MATEO, Calif. (Reuters) - Siebel Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:SEBL - news) on Monday announced the Web-based version of its flagship customer service and selling software and said it had struck a deal to buy nQuire Software Inc.

San Mateo, California-based Siebel did not announce the shipping date of its new software nor the terms of its pending acquisition of analytics software vendor nQuire.

Siebel demonstrated Siebel 7 -- the long-awaited version of its popular customer relationship management (CRM) software that has been rewritten to run on the Internet -- at its user conference in Chicago.

Siebel expects the nQuire acquisition to complement its existing analytics technology, which uses information about customers, partners and employees to enhance selling, marketing and service operations.

Privately held nQuire has key offices in San Mateo, California and Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Siebel's stock was 39 cents lower at $12.62 in mid-morning trade on Nasdaq. Siebel shares have lost 88 percent of their value in the last 52 weeks.
