The Arabs have never agreed to having a colony of secular (non) Jews placed down adjacent to them and dominating their region with the power of the West.

Which Arabs are you referring to?? The ones who willingly sold their land to Jews for over 50 years prior to the war of independence??

Or the secular Arabs like Nasser and others who saw western influence in that region as a threat to their authoritarian legitimacy??

Or is it that waging perpetual war against Israel has been a convenient excuse for not taking care of their own people, and distracting dissent against their minority rule.

After all, Syria and Jordan, as I've pointed out numerous times, are ruled by minorities who continue to repress or disenfranchise their majorities.

It seems to me if Arabs didn't like Jews, they shouldn't have sold them land in the first place..

As for "flattery", most Arab states would be wastelands had it not been for western know-how in building their oil producing infrastructure and then purchasing that oil from them, resulting in fantastic wealth being created amongst Arabs for a relatively few individuals.
