It is not necessary to have a depression to atone for the previous good times!
Keynes hd the solution for the depression but only WWII made it possible, politically for the government to spend enough to get the world economy going again.

The tragedy is that we do what is needed only because of war!

If we had financed our way out of the depression early in the thirties we may have avoided WWII Hitler used the military buildup to help his economy Prosperity would have removed the incentive for the industrialists to go along.

The tremendous waste of depression and unemployment is absolutely avoidable if our political leaders would only pay attention to the economic realities. A good course in Econ 101 might help.
